Ugh, another McLoone's. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad locally-owned proprietors are opening up, but none of this sounds exciting. I hope they add a little variety. ASBURY PARK — Madison Marquette, the retail mover and shaker on the Asbury Park waterfront, unveiled its immediate plans for the boardwalk for this summer, including several upscale restaurants to be located in the oceanfront pavilions.
Restaurateur and musician Tim McCloone, who owns restaurants in Sea Bright and Pier Village in Long Branch, will take over the first and second floors of the former Howard Johnson's restaurant in the Fifth Avenue pavilion. He will take over the Salt Water Beach Cafe on the first floor and also open up a supper club on the second floor.
An Italian restaurant, to be operated by the owners of Sirena, also in Pier Village in Long Branch, is planned for the First Avenue pavilion.
The new restaurants are to be open for the summer, said Gary Mottola, president of investments for Madison Marquette.
"It's a major effort, it's a substantial effort and needs to happen immediately,'' Mottola said.
Other city restaurants, including Taka and Market in the Middle, plan to open additional eateries in the boardwalk zone.
Mottola also said the Wonder Bar on Ocean Avenue is expected to reopen by May, and Madison Marquette plans to open a beach club for families. In addition, Mottola also said improvements to the Paramount Theater and Convention Hall will be completed by summer.
Many of the plans will require city approval.
"We have plans to completely revitalize the boardwalk by summer,'' Mottola said.

;D
McCloone's venture in AP isd a good one, and a local branded name which may bring intersting food and music to the Boardwalk. Eneetainment is key to the sucess of AP, and the Madison Marquette group seemed to be the right mix, with a NJ guy behind the wheel.
All should step up and support this new restaurant, the food is good at a reasonable price. Better views can not be had, and then hopefully the Upstairs supper club will come to life
