Did this happen? What is it anyway? I googled and came up with nothing. Except for a placeholder for www.redbankfirstnight.com/ and press about last year's. www.redbank.com is really no help. They used to have a forum, but looks like they did away with it. Anyways, if you know anything about Red Bank First Night, please post here. Thanks.

"First Night" is a nation-wide movement that encourages cities to offer family-friendly, alcohol-free, (cultural) events on New Year's Eve. This may include music, face painting, dancing, food, fireworks, etc. Sounds good, right? Well, I suppose that some big cities that offer First Night (like Boston), may offer a wonderful experience, however "First Night Red Bank"...well, sucked big time when I went two years ago with two friends. Maybe that's why only remnants of its existence can be found. It was an embarrassment. There appeared to be NOTHING happening around town related to "First Night," other than the ice cream store was open and was apparently participating, i.e. was open?! I spent this New Year's with one of my friends who had gone to First Night with me, and we were in Red Bank for dinner. She said that she remembered that that night had been a lot of fun. I told her that that was because we ended up going to a bar for drinks, and she said, yeah that was what was fun. I told her that the bar was actually not part of First Night. "Oh, then 'First Night Red Bank' really blowed," she said. I agreed.

Ahh, well then I don't feel like I missed out on anything! ;D BTW, what bar did you go to? I really love and miss Dublin House. I used to be within stumbling distance, but no more.

Okay, so registration wasn't too painful and now I don't have to copy those security codes I can never read...
We went to that bar at the intersection of Front and Broad that has been closed for repairs for a long time. I always forget its name. It always had good girly drinks.

I never went in that place, then again it might have closed before I moved to Red Bank. I'm not sure. Thanks for joining! I have been slowly promoting this new board in hopes people will join and participate in conversations. I'm probably going to register a domain and put up a simple website, with a quick link to this board. I work in SEO so I know some techniques that'll drive traffic. I'm a social person by nature, but my day job burns me out during the week and weekends are for relaxing/catching up on chores. So I don't get much socialization these days. Except for my once-a-month DJ gig in Philly, I don't go out much at all. I'm resigned to a life of Internet chat!

Hi Marilyn,
I got your email announcing this message board and couldn't get in because the server was "under seige." Anyway, I got in, registered and read the First Night thread. That's basically what happened, although I think First Night started in Boston and apparently doesn't travel well. The bar on Front and Broad that is closed was known as "Downtown" and it has been renovating since 1908 it seems:-) Another bar that I'm waiting to finish renovation is Clark's Landing in Pt. Pleasant. They closed October 8th with almost no notice. Bars seem to be going belly-up around here. Giovani's on Route 35 N in Middletown; The Quay in Sea Bright was closed on Saturday night after New Year's, what's with that? I guess times are tuff. I know a few of my realtor friends are worried.
If you want to go out near you there's Cafe 34 in Matawan, on route 34 north of Buttonwood Manor. They have live Jazz on Wednesday and Thursday starting at 8 until 12 and Rock & Roll Bands on Friday and Saturday starting at 10 until 2.

Ahh, "Downtown" I think I remember hearing about that from an acquaintance. I thought it was supposed to re-open last year! lol Rumor has it Chubby's is going to close and be torn down only to offer retail on the first floor and (overpriced) condos above. Giovanni's in Middletown has been closed since I've lived in this area (almost 2 years now). I know you recommended Cafe 34 to me before. We still haven't checked it out. Then again Jazz really isn't our thing per se. That's not to say we don't like it, but we don't go out of our way for Jazz events. I wonder if they have DJ gear in there? I'd love to do an 80s night around here. I've already reached out to Breakfast Club in Old Bridge, but I think they're set. I'll leave that for another post.
